The Oxford Half Marathon 2024
Kayleigh James
My Story
I will be running 13.1 miles in aid of Oxford Hospitals Charity, helping them to continue to transform the hospitals that have offered my daughter the life changing treatment she needs.
Ida is a powerhouse. A warrior. A true inspiration to everyone who meets her. The bravest, most resilient child and I am in complete awe of her.
Ida was born in 2015. Bursting into this world and turning our lives upside down.
It was soon discovered by the wonderful team at the Nuffield that Ida's left fibular was completely missing.
This has meant years of operations and treatments that the strongest of adults would struggle to endure.
The latest challenge has been Ida's second leg lengthening, which involves, in short, her leg being broken and stretched over months using an external frame.
The strength and determination of this tiny human is just incredible. She never questions her abilities, and pushes on with a fire in her belly, proving to the world that no fibular really is no problem.
I am running the half marathon in her honour. I am sure that one day, it will be her. Against all the odds. Taking every challenge in her stride. X
